Supporting Scripture: Matt 22:37- 39
Title of Message: What do you do for God?
Delivered by: Deaconess Akua Richardson
Over the years that you have been on God’s side, during the time you have been saved and given the eternal gift of salvation. At this time when you realise that you are blessed, that Hod has kept you and spared you, that grace and favour are on your side, what have you given to God?
God is not a human being so you cannot cuddle him or comfort him as you do your children. You can’t buy him an iPad for his birthday, you can’t wine and dine him like you do your mate. So what have you been doing for him?
Matt 22:37- 39 says: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself“
James 1: 26 -27 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues(A) deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after(B) orphans and widows(C) in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Colossians 3: 23 -24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance(A) from the Lord as a reward.(B) It is the Lord Christ you are serving
Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe(A) into the storehouse,(B) that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates(C) of heaven and pour out(D) so much blessing(E) that there will not be room enough to store it.(F)
The Bible tells us to love one another, to support and care for others. This is godly. We honour God when we love his creation, children and as love is an action word, when we show kindness, when we do for one another. As a family we can love God by being there for one another, sacrificing for His people and his church.
By building the church and by holding it up. When you take on a role, do it with your heart, not halfheartedly. Do it as unto God. It could be providing food, beverages, cleaning, setting up speaking, encouraging, mentoring, helping to organise. Do it and do it well knowing that God rewards and blesses but ultimately because you recognise who He is and what He has done.
Respect God, give him your time and your best. Honour him with your promptness, effort and seek to add value to your church, pastor, members, events
Put away callousness, jealousy and petty bickering. If your life were ending those things would not matter. Your life is ongoing, it is a precious gift, focus your energies on the positive.
So what can you give God? Plenty. Love better and more, treat his children better, sacrifice time and effort for them, support your church, respect the church, Pastor and members, respect the effort and help to raise up. Put away bad attitude and words. Get involved, bring ideas, step up from time to time and give without receiving.
Love God with all your heart.
