Title of message: A New Strength From The Lord
Scripture: 1 Samuel 30
Delivered by: Deaconess Akua Richardson
As Christians, we often quote, “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” How often do actually think about the rest of the scripture? Do we actually think about what happened to David?
- His family and the families of his soldiers were taken captive
- Their camp was burnt down to ashes
- David and his soldiers wept until they had no more strength left to weep
- The soldiers blamed David and they wanted to stone him
- David encouraged himself in the Lord
- David prayed to seek direction and God said to pursue, overtake and recover

We have all experienced pain and we all have ๐๐๐๐๐๐ of the ๐๐๐๐.
People did not always see the worth of Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba. He went for a job with the police and was told he wasn’t good enough. He went for a job at KFC, 24 people interviewed and 23 people got the jobโ he was the only one who was unsuccessful.
Wounds come in all different shapes and sizes:
- A father or mother who left or died when you were young
- Witnessing domestic abuse
- Being insulted or told you are not good enough or even worthless
- The loss of something or a loved one
- Failure in relationships no matter how much effort you put in
- People not supporting you when you need it most
- Isolation and victimisation at work
- Being bullied or picked up
- Trying to make it and failing
- Being used and/or abused by someone
- Being continuously rejected or ignored
- Seeing those you love constantly lack or miss out on blessings
- Being alone
We may get on with it but our wounds are triggered sometimes. It can be lonely, who do you trust? Are you afraid to be vulnerable? Wounded people can overreact, be more vocal, more angry than necessary but they can also be quiet or leave the environment they’re in. Sometimes we don’t now we have a wound until it is triggered.
๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐!
- What is your wound?
- How does it impact you or those who come close?
- What are you doing about it?
The story of David tells us that wounds occur, pain is real and confusing but, when you seek Him, God reveals and directs until your pain is no more.
God is telling us to take action! Go to God. He is a God of revelation and He makes all things beautiful in His own time. We can be impatient but His time is the perfect time.
If you don’t deal with your wounds they will deal with you so allow Him to build your character and mould you. It will hurt but you will be better offโ Remember he will never leave you or forsake you.
